The children we help
We help children like Amy who has been caring for her mother since she was 4 years old.
Below are the stories of just a few of the other children whose lives have been changed by Honeypot.
*Molly
Molly, aged seven, was physically abused as a baby by both her birth parents. Her injuries required her to have seven major operations to her head, two of which were to save her sight. Her sight is still poor but she is able to see with the aid of glasses. She lives with her grandparents who she calls “Mum & Dad”. Her Grandmother suffers from depression due to the terrible injuries Molly’s birth mother inflicted on Molly. Honeypot provides Molly with the opportunity to be a child in her own right without worrying about who is looking out for her grandparents. She loves coming to Honeypot and has flourished since her first visit.
*Fiona
Fiona is 8 years old and cares for her father who suffers from severe depression, her mother died three years ago, Fiona is frequently bullied and has no-one to turn to. Her father’s health has improved slightly but there is always the feeling that he could go back to his depressive state and that she may be put in to care. She loves her father deeply and cannot really understand why he lets this happen to her. She is a fun loving little girl who needs something to look forward to. Honeypot will continue to provide Fiona with a loving and supportive environment throughout her childhood.
*Daniel
Daniel is 6 years old and has a chaotic home life. His mother drinks heavily, he has no contact with his father, he often goes hungry and he regularly misses school. On Daniel’s first visit, he was very anxious and needed to be reassured that his Mum would be fine whilst he was away. He called home at night and morning to make sure she had not done anything ‘silly’. Whilst at Honeypot he was able to relax slightly and almost forgot his troubles by being able to be a child.
