Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental Health Awareness Week is 8-14 May this year!

Good mental health is important for us all, but so often concerns our Honeypot children. Caring at such a young age can take a mental toll on a child, or the reason they care may be due to the mental health problems their parent or relative suffers from – indeed, almost a third of young carers across the UK care for someone with mental health problems [1].

A recent study of over 200 young carers in Scotland found that young carers are at greater risk of mental health problems, stress and sleeping disorders compared to their peers, and shows just why we should be thinking about the mental health of young carers.

Did you know?

The 2011 Census showed young carers were more likely to report their health as ‘Not good’, and this only rose with more care provided.
