Binit litter-picking challenge

The Honeypot Children’s Charity will welcome environmental organisation Binit to its Pen y Bryn house near Newtown, Powys, next Wednesday, as the organisation launches a new litter-picking challenge to raise funds for young carers and children aged 5-12 experiencing difficult circumstances.

The event on Wednesday 26 August will mark the start of Binit’s involvement in this September’s Challenge for Change – The Continental Challenge, which is bringing together businesses, communities and individuals to get active and raise money for children’s charities.

Binit has already donated an incredible £10,000 to The Honeypot Children’s Charity to kick-start its fundraising efforts and will use litter picking as its challenge throughout September, encouraging people to get active, clean up their local communities and raise funds for Honeypot at the same time.

During Wednesday’s launch, representatives from Binit will tour our Pen y Bryn House and learn more about Honeypot’s work supporting young carers and children experiencing difficult circumstances.

They will also join a litter pick around the grounds and meet children who will be enjoying a residential Respite Break at the house.

To bring the environmental theme to life, the children will take part in a creative recycling challenge, transforming recycled materials into imaginative creations and demonstrating how everyday waste can be given a new purpose.

Going the distance for children’s charities

Throughout September, Challenge for Change is inviting people across the UK and beyond to collectively travel 100,000 kilometres, representing a journey across all seven continents, while raising £100,000 funds for children’s charities.

Participants can walk, run, cycle, swim or choose their own way, either as individuals or as teams, of clocking up kilometres. There is no cost to participate and people can choose to fundraise, contribute kilometres towards the collective target, or do both.

The initiative follows the success of the first Challenge for Change campaign in 2025, which brought together participants from 11 countries, supported 31 children’s charities and raised more than £45,000.

This year, Binit will put its own environmental spin on the challenge by encouraging people to combine their kilometres with litter picking, helping to create cleaner local spaces while also supporting Honeypot, their chosen charity.

Journalists and photographers are invited to attend the launch at Honeypot Pen y Bryn on Wednesday 26 August between 10.30am and 12.30pm.

Opportunities will include photographs of the litter pick and recycling challenge, tours of the Pen y Bryn House and interviews with representatives from The Honeypot Children’s Charity and Binit.
