Carers Week 8-14 June

8 June 2026

Carers Week 2026 takes place from 8-14 June and this year's theme, Building Carer Friendly Communities, highlights the importance of recognising and supporting unpaid carers across the UK.

At The Honeypot Children's Charity, we know that caring responsibilities can begin at a very young age. Many of the children we support help care for a parent, sibling, grandparent or other family member while also trying to navigate school, friendships and the everyday experiences of childhood.

For young carers, a carer-friendly community can make a huge difference. It might be a school that understands the pressures they face at home, a healthcare professional who takes the time to listen, a local organisation that offers opportunities to take a break, or simply adults who recognise that some children are carrying responsibilities beyond their years.

Without the right support, young carers can feel isolated, overwhelmed and overlooked. By creating communities that recognise and respond to their needs, we can help ensure they have the same opportunities as other children to learn, play, build friendships and look forward to the future.

Creating carer-friendly communities is also about helping young carers connect with others who understand their experiences. One parent whose son attends Honeypot said:

"Ben has really enjoyed going to Honeypot and meeting other young carers. Having that bond with people that he doesn't really get at school, people that are in similar situations and understand him more, has been really important." Honeypot parent

At Honeypot, we are proud to play our part by providing young carers and children aged 5-12 experiencing difficult circumstances with residential Respite Breaks, Health and Wellbeing Breaks, and ongoing wraparound support designed to build confidence, reduce isolation and improve wellbeing.

We also work closely with local communities across England, Scotland and Wales. From volunteers who give their time to support events and raise awareness, to schools, referrers, fundraisers and community groups who champion our work, these partnerships help us reach more young carers and ensure they receive the support they need.

This Carers Week, we would like to thank everyone who helps create communities where young carers feel seen, valued and supported. Together, we can help ensure that every young carer has the opportunity to thrive.
