A musical stage set in the woods

Magical Music Night

24 September 2025

Rodlease Woods was transformed into a vibrant celebration of music, magic, and community spirit on Saturday, 13 September, as over 500 guests gathered for Honeypot’s Magical Music Night. Thanks to hosts Simon Parker, Dita Broster and Steve Rickman, and the support of their organising committee and over 50 volunteers, the evening ran seamlessly.

Families arrived to the sounds of a jazz quintet, a warm greeting from Bumble and a glass of Pimms or soft drink. Children enjoyed making pompom bees, colouring, a sweet trolley, meeting alpacas and exploring farm machinery. As the concert was about to begin, a dramatic downpour swept through the woods, but the audience’s resilience shone through as umbrellas and wet weather gear came out, and the One Way Ticket Choir kept spirits high with their uplifting singing.

As the skies cleared at the start of the show, everyone was particularly moved when Kirstie, a former Honeypot young carer, shared her story, highlighting the lasting impact of Honeypot’s support.

“Honeypot’s work has given me lasting memories, a sense of belonging and the belief that I mattered.” Kirstie | Former Honeypot young carer

The headline act of the evening was the One Way Ticket Choir performing a Phantom of the Opera medley, accompanied by Peter Roper-Curzon on an organ which was specially transported to the woodland setting. It was lit by an enormous chandelier suspended from the trees above the stage.

A highlight of the evening was the spellbinding magic show by The Great Wildini, who captivated both children and adults with his astonishing illusions. The programme featured impressive solo performances from singers Evita and Debra, and beautiful classical guitar interludes. The night ended with dancing to Six & Sax, concluding an evening showcasing the breadth of local talent.

Thanks to the generosity of all involved, £15,865 was raised - enough to fund Respite Breaks for 32 young carers, giving them the chance to simply be children and create happy memories. Every note truly helped change a young carer’s life.
