Over £100k Funding for Wales

28 May 2025

The Honeypot Children’s Charity is pleased to announce that it has secured £101,072 in funding for another year to continue its vital work supporting young carers in multiple local authorities across Wales. This renewed financial backing will enable The Honeypot Children’s Charity to continue to offer activities and support through the Short Breaks Scheme and Carers Support Fund.

The Short Breaks Scheme and Carers Support Fund are coordinated by Carers Trust Wales and, thanks to renewed Welsh Government funding, will run for another year, until March 2026.

The Honeypot Children’s Charity supports young carers aged 5-12 in Wales with a range of Short Breaks. The funding will ensure that hundreds of young carers will continue to receive essential breaks, resources and support, including Respite Breaks, Memory Making Days, Short Day trips, Microgrants and Wellbeing Wallets. Funding from the Carers Support Fund will help to provide access to food vouchers or Wellbeing Grants for young carers’ families facing financial hardship.

Kate Cubbage, Director Carers Trust Wales, said:

“Young carers across Wales provide invaluable care for family members, friends and loved ones, often at great personal sacrifice. We’ve heard from thousands of unpaid carers that the Short Breaks Scheme has given them their first access to a break from caring and that grants through the Carers Support Fund have been essential to keeping food on the table and heat in their homes. These programmes are helping to sustain carers through some of the toughest times.

"The continued funding of £5.25 million distributed across Wales via Carers Trust Wales and Regional Partnership Boards will enable local carer organisations and delivery partners to reach thousands more unpaid carers with a much-needed break from caring and with protection from the sharpest end of poverty into 2026.

“We are thrilled that The Honeypot Children’s Charity successfully applied for funding for another year to help the carers they support in Wales. Together, we are offering a lifeline to young carers and the chance for them to gain some support and balance in their lives.”

Simmi Woodwal, CEO of The Honeypot Children’s Charity said:

“We are delighted to receive this fantastic funding renewal, which reaffirms the importance of young carers. There are an estimated 1million young carers nationwide who desperately need support. They often experience high levels of anxiety, severe social isolation and many fall behind in school due to the pressure of their caring responsibilities at home.

"In addition, the families that we support are very often financially disadvantaged. The continuous wrap-around service that The Honeypot Children’s Charity offers enables young carers to enjoy a much-needed break, to access tailored support and to ensure they are making happy memories and building brighter futures.”
