Lottery and Statutory Funding

The Honeypot Children’s Charity has a dedicated resource to engage with Lottery and Statutory funders.

We are interested in working in partnership with our wider network of referring organisations to explore joint funding applications and joint public sector contract bids. See our current list of funders below.

Please contact madeleine@honeypot.org.uk for more information.

Government Funding

short breaks scheme

The Honeypot Children’s Charity is delighted to receive funding from the Welsh government through the Short Breaks Scheme for our work with young carers in Wales. We first received support through this scheme in 2023, and we are hopeful that funding will be continued for many years to come.

In 2025-26 the Short Breaks Scheme will help us deliver eight Residential Short Breaks at our Honeypot House in Powys, eight Short Day Trips, four Memory Making Days, 150 microgrants and 50 Wellbeing Wallets. This will benefit a total of  325 young carers from many local authorities across Wales.

carer’s support fund

The Honeypot Children’s Charity is delighted to receive funding from the Welsh government through the Carers Support Fund to support young carer families in Wales. We first received support through this scheme in 2022, and we are hopeful that funding will be continued for many years to come.

In 2025-26 the Carers Support Fund will provide 150 families with £100 in food vouchers, and 20 families will benefit from our Wellbeing Fund with goods or services with a value of up to £250.

The Short Breaks Scheme and the Carers Support Fund are overseen by Carers Trust Wales and funded by the Welsh Government.

Shared Care Scotland – Creative Breaks Fund

The Honeypot Children’s Charity is delighted to receive funding from the Scottish Government through the Creative Breaks Fund through Shared Care Scotland. This funding will support a new collaborative project between The Honeypot Children’s Charity and South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership (SAHSCP), enabling many young carers from South Ayrshire to benefit from Residential Short Breaks, Memory Making or Bumble Days.

The initiative, titled Early Identification of and Short Breaks for Wee Carers, aims to reach and support children as young as four who are providing care for a loved one but are not currently supported by commissioned carers services. Many “hidden” young carers are first identified through their schools, often only once they reach a crisis point at around age 12. By engaging with schools and families earlier, this project will help identify and support children before their caring responsibilities begin to negatively impact their wellbeing, education, and future development.

household support fund

In collaboration with Hampshire County Council Honeypot distributed £100 food vouchers to 100 vulnerable young carer families in 2025. The vouchers were funded through the Department for Work and Pensions’ Household Support Fund which was created to support those most in need and to help with the cost of essentials.

Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme 2025

Hampshire County Council accepted Honeypot as a HAF provider for 2025. Through this fund we can provide 72 young carers from Hampshire who are eligible for Free School Meals to attend one of our residential breaks during the 2025 Easter, Summer and Christmas School Holidays. The government’s HAF programme aims to provide healthy meals, enriching activities and free childcare places to children from low-income families during school holidays, benefitting their health, wellbeing and learning. Research has shown that the school holidays can be pressure points for some families, and for some children that can lead to a holiday experience gap.

Lottery Funding

national lottery community fund - awards for all

Honeypot is very fortunate to have received funding from the Lottery’s Awards for All programme in 2025 for our work with young carers at our Honeypot House in England and at our Honeypot House in Wales. The funding has helped pay for frontline staff salaries who engage and support young carers during Memory Making Days and Residential Short Breaks.

Our staff wear many hats: they are entertainers, teachers, cooks, cleaners, administrators, travel chaperones and supervisors who can positively manage children’s’ behaviour with confidence. They must have relevant teaching, childcare or play-work qualifications and recent experience, as well as a qualification or training in Safeguarding Children and Young People.

SCOTTISH CHILDREN’S LOTTERY TRUST

The Lottery has granted Honeypot funding to deliver our first Social and Emotional Active Learning (SEAL) break in Scotland. We have years of experience running this programme in England and Wales, and we are excited to adapt it to local context in Scotland.

The Scottish Children’s Lottery has kindly invited Honeypot to be one of their chosen charities, which means that when people choose us, at least 20% of their ticket sales will be donated to Honeypot. The lottery is open to anyone in the UK.
