8-year-old Jessica fundraising for Honeypot

Meet Jessica, an 8-year-old from Leeds raising money for Honeypot. Along with Mum Rebecca they have taken on the challenge to cycle 20-miles in the Easter holidays next year, pushing themselves while fundraising for Honeypot in the process.

I want to help other young children like me
— Jessica

We spoke to Jessica on how the training is going so far.

Why did you decide to raise money for Honeypot over other charities?

I chose Honeypot as I think that children should have a chance to have fun and just be a child like me!

When did you start cycling?

I started when I was 2 on a balance bike and learnt to ride without stablisers when I was five.

When I got my big bike I was 6 and a half and started going on long rides with Mummy, this was also a challenge for Mummy!

What inspired you to do this challenge in particular?

After our 17 mile bike ride a few people suggested that we should get sponsored, so this is what we decided to do!

Have you done any other challenges like this before?

We did our 17 miles when Mummy wanted to go for a picnic (what a motivation). It was a challenge to ride there. Once we got back I wanted to push myself and do something further than that!

I can imagine being out in the muddy cycle lanes is tough! What has been your biggest challenge so far?

I have found using the different gears to help me ride better the toughest, but I am learning.

What has been the most enjoyable part so far?

The exercise and cycling around the RSPB as well as the sites. I love cycling along the canal and going to see the Gruffalo and Olaf at Woodlesford.

Have you found fundraising tough or easy?

Tough and easy.

Any tips for other people fundraising?

Have lots of funs and do things you enjoy, I enjoy cycling.

What other hobbies do you have?

I have just started going to Beavers, I love reading, playing the piano and recently learnt to play jingle bells.

If you could tell us one interesting fact about yourself what would it be?

I am a school librarian and a member of the arts council for my class. My bedroom is like a library!

Everyone at Honeypot is rooting for you Jessica and Rebecca.

Good luck! We can’t wait to see how you do in Easter!
