10 Downing Street chooses The Honeypot Children’s Charity as their Charity of The Year

The staff at The Prime Minister’s Office, Number 10 Downing Street, have chosen to support The Honeypot Children’s Charity as their Charity of the Year.

The partnership will raise awareness and understanding of young carers across the UK – children who provide care and support to a loved one who may be disabled, or chronically or terminally ill. These children will help give medication, complete household chores and assist with personal care, some since they were five years old.

Honeypot were among three shortlisted charities by the staff at Number 10 and chosen finally by vote from the whole team. Number 10 launched the partnership on the 11th of December by inviting five local Honeypot children to the annual children’s Christmas party at 10 Downing Street. The children had an amazing afternoon taking part in organised games and arts and crafts, and met Paddington Bear and Tottenham Hotspur footballers Eric Dier and Harry Winks.

“We are thrilled to announce this partnership for Honeypot with 10 Downing Street, which will be so instrumental for highlighting the plight of young carers in this country,” says Simmi Woodwal, Chief Executive at the Honeypot Children’s Charity. “In addition to raising awareness, it will also help so many families come forward as many young carers go under-reported. Honeypot provide vital respite breaks and ongoing outreach support to these young carers and the very real positive difference this will make for our children cannot be understated.”

The staff at 10 Downing Street will be supporting Honeypot through 2018 with a number of activities that include upskilling staff across events, communications and social media, and taking part in numerous sponsored challenges for Honeypot to raise money and awareness.  Be sure to check back at our website for more details over the year, or follow us on social media.
